Metal roofs built on a solid deck, not over old shingles

We install two kinds of metal roofs on homes: standing seam panels from McElroy Metal and exposed-fastener panels from Frontier Metal. Every metal roof starts with a full tear-off down to the decking, so the panels go on a clean, solid surface with new underlayment underneath.

How much does a metal roof cost in Missouri?

Exposed-fastener metal roofs start around $1,400 per square, and standing seam starts around $2,600 per square. A square is 100 square feet of roof. The final price depends on the size and pitch of your roof and the decking repairs it needs, and your free inspection gives you an exact number.

Metal roof typeStarting price
Exposed-fastener (Frontier Metal)About $1,400 per square
Standing seam (McElroy Metal)About $2,600 per square

Typical starting prices for a full tear-off and install. They are not a quote. One square equals 100 square feet of roof.

What is the difference between standing seam and exposed-fastener metal roofs?

Standing seam panels lock together at raised seams, and the fasteners are hidden under the panel. Exposed-fastener panels are screwed through the face of the panel. Standing seam costs more and has a cleaner look. Exposed-fastener costs less and is a good fit for many homes and outbuildings.

How do we install an exposed-fastener metal roof?

We do not screw panels over old shingles or straight into wood purlins. Here is how we build it:

  • Tear the roof off down to the decking and fix any soft or damaged boards, so every screw has solid wood to bite into.
  • Cover the whole deck with PSU 30 underlayment.
  • Install metal hat channel as the purlins. It is designed to let the roof flex as the panels expand and contract with Missouri heat and cold.
  • Fasten the panels with screws that have a metal cup-style cap, which covers most of the rubber gasket once the screw is set.

Can you put a metal roof over my shingles?

We don’t. Going over shingles hides soft decking and old leaks, and it leaves the screws without a solid surface to hold. We tear every metal roof down to the deck first, check and repair the wood, and put new underlayment down before any metal goes on.

Do you install metal roofs on commercial buildings?

Yes. Our commercial team installs metal systems along with TPO and EPDM. See commercial roofing, or our commercial pages for Springfield and Columbia.

Where do you install metal roofs?

We install metal roofs from local offices across Missouri. Find metal roofing near you in Springfield, Columbia, Jefferson City and the Lake of the Ozarks, plus nearby towns like Nixa, Ozark and Camdenton.
