High-impact hail and humidity trigger hidden leaks in Nixa homes
Nixa’s rapid growth has attracted out-of-town roofers who prioritize speed over structural integrity. These contractors often cut corners on ventilation and flashing, leaving new homeowners with leaky roofs and no one to call when the roof fails before the “warranty” even expires.
Nixa’s trusted hometown roofer
We’re invested in Nixa’s future. We combine quality craftsmanship with a 10-year workmanship guarantee. Our 360º digital inspections give you a transparent look at your roof, ensuring your family stays protected in one of Missouri’s best communities.
Roofing in Nixa: what local homeowners should know
Most Nixa homes are 15 to 35 years old. Census figures show more than half were built between 1990 and 2009, and the median year built is 2000. That’s the age when the first roof on a house usually wears out. Original shingles from the late 1990s and early 2000s are reaching the end of their lives, often after a few hail seasons have already worn down the granules.
Here’s what we’d tell a neighbor on Main Street:
- Nixa has its own tornado and wind history. On April 9, 2009, an EF-0 tornado with winds up to 80 mph tracked 4.75 miles through town. NWS says it caused minor damage to more than two dozen homes. In October 2019, a storm report from just west of Nixa noted “shingles blown off.” Wind damage often starts small: one lifted tab along a ridge or rake edge.
- The 2026 hail reached Nixa too. On April 28, 2026, spotters reported 1.75-inch hail west-northwest of town. Later that afternoon came reports of 1-inch hail in Nixa itself. That’s smaller than what hit Springfield. Hail that size can still bruise older shingles, so if your roof dates from the 1990s, have it looked at.
- Homes here are worth protecting. Nixa’s median owner-occupied home value is about $258,700, among the highest in the Springfield area. A properly installed roof protects that value when it’s time to sell.
- Hills mean wind exposure. The town sits on and around seven hills. Homes on higher lots catch more wind, so ridge caps and starter strips matter.

Are Nixa’s rental houses getting the roof care they need?
Not always, because a rental house is easy to overlook. About one in three occupied homes in Nixa is rented, and more than half of those rentals (53.6%) are single-family houses, detached or attached, not apartments (ACS 2020-2024). Most of Nixa’s rental homes were built between 1990 and 2009, which puts their roofs at the age when problems start to show.
| Housing in Nixa | ACS 2020-2024 |
|---|---|
| Renter-occupied homes | 3,037 (32.9% of occupied homes) |
| Rentals that are detached houses | 37.0% |
| Rentals that are attached single-family homes | 16.7% |
| Rental homes built 1990-2009 | 56.8% |
| Renters who moved in 2020 or later | 40.9% |
| Median year built, renter-occupied homes | 1996 |
Rental houses fall into a gap. The tenant lives under the roof but doesn’t own it. The owner owns it but may not see it for months. About 41% of Nixa renters moved in during 2020 or later, so many tenants haven’t been there long enough to know what normal looks like. A small brown spot on a bedroom ceiling might never get mentioned.
A few habits help. Look at the roof and attic between tenants, while the house is empty. Ask tenants to tell you right away about ceiling stains, drips during storms or shingles in the yard. After hail or high wind, get an inspection with dated photos even if nobody has called. That record helps if you need to file a claim.
Age matters here too. The median rental home in Nixa was built in 1996, so many of these houses still have their first roof or one that is close to 20 years old. If you own several rentals from the same era, plan replacements a year or two ahead so they don’t all come due at once. Attached rentals need one more step: talk with the owner next door before work starts on a shared roof.

What do Nixa homeowners ask about their roofs?
My house was built around 2000 and still has its original roof. Is it time?
It depends on condition, not just age. An inspection should check granule loss, lifted or cracked tabs, and the flashing around vents and chimneys. If your roof took hail on April 28, 2026, mention that date when you schedule.
Which Nixa neighborhoods do you serve?
We serve homes all over town, including Wicklow, Copper Leaf, Irish Hills Estates, Kelby Creek, Tiffany Highlands, Estates of Enniskerry, Tuckaway and Timberline Estates. Most of these are subdivisions of detached houses from the 1990s and 2000s, the bread and butter of residential roofing in Nixa. Our crews come from our Springfield-area office at 4440 W Helen St, so a free inspection is a short drive down the road.
Does Nixa only get hail in the spring?
No. Spring is the usual season, but the largest hail listed for Christian County in the National Weather Service hazard book, 2-inch stones, fell on November 10, 1995. Fall wind counts too: in October 2019, a report just west of Nixa noted shingles blown off. So don’t wait until April to have storm damage checked. Look at your roof after any hard storm, whatever the month.
What do I get from a free roof inspection on my Nixa house?
You get a full look at the roof, plus photos and video so you can see what we see. On a typical Nixa house, a detached home from the 1990s or 2000s, we check the ridge caps and edges first, since homes on Nixa’s hills catch more wind. Then we look at the vents, pipe boots and gutters. If there’s storm damage, we’ll walk you through the insurance claim.
