Did the April 28, 2026 hail damage gutters in Springfield?

In many neighborhoods, yes. The National Weather Service listed gutters with roofing, siding and windows among the home damage after the April 28, 2026 hailstorm crossed northwest Springfield. Dented gutters, downspouts and vents are easy to see from the ground, and they are useful evidence of hail size when you file an insurance claim.

Dents alone do not always mean a gutter has to be replaced, but crushed downspouts, split seams and gutters pulling away from the house stop water from draining. If the gutters took hail, the roof above them probably did too, so we check both. See our storm damage restoration page for how claims work.

How often should Springfield homeowners clean their gutters?

At least twice a year for most homes: in late spring after seeds and blossoms fall, and in late fall after the leaves are down. Homes with big trees over the roof need it more often. Many older Springfield neighborhoods have tall, mature trees close to the house, so plan on extra checks after storms.

Our free fall gutter checklist shows what to look for from the ground, and the how often to clean gutters guide explains the timing.

What happens when gutters overflow on an older Springfield house?

Water that spills over or runs behind a gutter soaks the fascia board, the soffit and the ground at the foundation. The median Springfield home was built in 1975, so many fascia boards have already taken 50 years of rain. Soft, stained or peeling wood behind the gutter line usually means water has been getting in for a while.

Are gutter guards worth it on a Springfield home?

Maybe. Gutter guards keep leaves out of the gutter itself, but debris still collects on top of them and has to be cleared. On a wooded home, guards can cut cleaning to about twice a year instead of several times a season. They reduce the work, but they do not make gutters maintenance free.

Can Midwest Roofing take care of my gutters every year?

Yes. Our ShingleCare+ annual maintenance plan covers five roof services for $99, including cleaning the roof surface and gutters, or the tops of gutter guards if you have them. The crew also seals vents, pipe boots and exposed nails and sends a photo report. You do not need to be home for the visit.

See what is included on the ShingleCare+ page.

Should gutters be looked at when a Springfield roof is replaced?

Yes. Soft spots in fascia boards and soffits are easier to fix while the roof is already being replaced than as a separate job later, and gutters have to come off or be protected during the tear-off anyway. Ask us to include the gutters, fascia and soffit in the inspection and the written estimate. If the old gutters are worn out, we can install new ones as part of the same job.
