Ozark Plateau hail and storm pressure degrades roofs in Rolla
Rolla’s position on the Ozark Plateau subjects homes to frequent, heavy hail and intense seasonal storms. This repetitive impact bruises shingle matting and strips protective granules, leaving the asphalt core vulnerable to UV degradation and sudden failure during the rainy season.
Rolla’s local roofer
Protect your Rolla home with a 360º digital inspection that identifies hail damage and ventilation issues. We provide the 10-year workmanship warranty you need to survive the cycle of heavy Ozark storms and high-intensity summer heat, ensuring your roof remains structurally sound.
Roofing in Rolla: what local homeowners should know
On the evening of March 14, 2025, an EF-2 tornado with winds of 110 to 120 mph crossed Highway 63 and cut through the southeast side of Rolla. NOAA’s storm records describe significant damage to some homes and roof damage to several schools and businesses; U.S. Geological Survey photos show a collapsed garage on Salem Avenue and a damaged roof at Mark Twain Elementary. Then, on July 9, 2026, the National Weather Service confirmed a brief EF-0 near Homelife Plaza.
If your home was in or near either path, here’s what to keep in mind.
1. Check repairs, not just replacements. Quick patch jobs after a big storm are common. If you had shingles or flashing repaired in 2025, have someone look at those areas again, especially the edges and around chimneys and vents.
2. Plan for snow. Rolla’s normal snowfall is about 20 inches a year, more than the Lake area. Heavy, wet snow adds real weight to an older roof deck.
3. Hail is part of the picture. Hail 2.75 inches across has been recorded near Rolla, in May 2003 and again in September 2006.
4. Renting out a house? Fewer than four in ten Rolla homes are owner-occupied, according to the Census Bureau. If you own a rental near campus, an inspection after each severe storm protects both the property and your tenants, and gives you dated photos if you need to file a claim.

FAQ
My house was near the March 2025 tornado path but the roof looks fine. Should I still get it checked? Yes. High winds can lift and crease shingles or loosen flashing without obvious damage from the ground, and those spots can leak months later. A close inspection with photos tells you for sure.
