Severe Ozarks storms put Lebanon roofs to the test
Lebanon sits where open terrain and shifting air masses collide, producing some of the most intense hail and straight-line winds in central Missouri. Season after season, that severe weather loosens granules, cracks aging shingles, and opens gaps that let water work its way into your decking and framing long before you notice a leak inside.
Lebanon’s local roofing partner
Our 360º digital inspections provide a transparent look at your roof’s health in the heart of the Ozarks. With a 10-year workmanship warranty, we ensure your Lebanon home is guarded against wind-driven storms and freeze-thaw damage year-round.
Roofing in Lebanon: what local homeowners should know
Lebanon homeowners deal with a full year of weather. Hail and tornadoes get the headlines, but winter can be just as hard on a roof here. Here’s what the records show, season by season.
Spring: hail and tornadoes. Big hail is recent here, not just history. On April 26, 2026, hail from golf-ball to hen-egg size fell across parts of Lebanon, damaging homes, vehicles and aircraft at the airport, according to NOAA’s Storm Events Database. Two years earlier, on May 26, 2024, a swath of baseball- to 3-inch hail fell north of town. Tornadoes have hit, too: on March 31, 2008, an EF-2 damaged several homes and businesses on Lebanon’s north side, and on February 29, 2012, an EF-1 touched down a mile southeast of town.
Summer: wind and heat. On May 4, 2020, the Lebanon airport measured an 89 mph gust before its sensor went offline; the same storm tore a church steeple off and overturned trucks on I-44. Lebanon averages about 16 days a year at 95°F or hotter, which wears on shingles and makes attic ventilation important.
Winter: snow and ice. Laclede County averages about 13 inches of snow a year, more than the Lake area to the north. Lebanon got 16 inches on March 6, 1989, and a February 2001 ice storm left up to two inches of ice in places. Heavy snow and ice put weight on gutters and can lead to ice dams at the roof edge. If you’ve had leaks at the eaves in past winters, ask about ice-and-water underlayment along the edges when you replace your roof.
Your home’s age. The Census Bureau puts the median year built for Lebanon homes at 1978. Many of those houses are on their second or third roof by now, so a good inspection should check the decking and the number of old layers, not just the shingles you can see.
After a storm, take photos, note the date, and get a written inspection before you sign anything.

FAQ
Does Lebanon get enough snow and ice to affect my roof? Yes. Laclede County averages about 13 inches of snow a year, and the record includes a 16-inch snowfall at Lebanon in 1989 and up to two inches of ice in February 2001. Ice and heavy snow load gutters and can back water up under shingles at the eaves, so edge protection and clean gutters matter here.
How big has hail gotten around Lebanon? Federal storm records include baseball- to 3-inch hail north of Lebanon on May 26, 2024, and golf-ball to hen-egg hail across town on April 26, 2026. The county’s largest on record is 3 inches, from April 28, 1983. Hail that size can crack shingles and dent metal, so have the roof inspected after a hailstorm even if you can’t see damage from the ground.
